Welcome to the advertising section of your GCSE course, which offers a question by question breakdown of links helpful for SECTION B of the exam. Your topic is ADVERTISING in PRINT & ELECTRONIC MEDIA. (You did have a crack at this last year as part of your Year 10 Mock exam)
Firstly, watch the video below. Wasn't it funny? Will it help you in the exam? No.Only kidding...well actually it could link in to Q8 and the importance of adverts which become famous and popular via viral means and the power of social networking. Also note the presentation embedded next to the Cadbury's gorilla. This contains a great deal of traditional media theory on audiences, including our old friend Maslow and his Hierarchy of Needs. Secondly, check out this mind-map which will give a you a basic breakdown of key concepts and ideas to cover in your revision. Keep watching this space as we (and I mean the collective intelligence) are likely to add to this in the period directly before you go on your exam revision. Why not try this exercise yourself shortly before the exam to find out how much you have actually memorised?
Thirdly, why bother studying advertising in the first place? Check out this handy starting place entitled
Finally, before you get down to the actual questions, remind yourself of THE HISTORY OF ADVERTISING, which you put together collectively last year and which represent some fabulous background notes to help you with all four questions. In my opinion this is the most important page for you to revise.
