City of God - Media@SIS

I have chosen this film (from your short list of seven) because I think it is the most relevant text for our discussion of editing, which forms the backbone of the first half-term. Your first task is to read this article by City of God editor, Daniel Rezende. It contains my diigo annotations, which you can reply to after you have joined the bookmarking service. (Note- My annotatons will take some time to load up. (Alternatively you can check my netvibes page for recent updates)

A second article can be found here, written by The Bluegrass Film Society. An interview with director Fernando Meirelles can be found here and a second academic review can be found here. That should keep you going! Keep in mind that I expect you to do reading on any forthcoming texts that we study in class. This will mean that you are already armed and informed for class discussion. Those of you sat in stony silence during textual analysis sessions are probably demonstrating that you have not done the reading.

Below, please find a clean example of the famous opening sequence, although note it is not in english. We'll watch in class on the big screen but remember it is the editing we're really watching!

Secondly, please find my questions embedded in the second extract below. It is the same sequence but with questions to help direct your analysis.
