New Media AFP/MYP Course (2016 +)

The 2016/17 academic year sees the Film, Television and Media department at SIS begin our most ambitious course to date. The aim of our new curriculum is to make the learning as real as possible. In educational language, this is known as AUTHENTIC LEARNING. What do we mean by this? The course offers you the chance to work within a real life MEDIA context. We update the course all the time, which means if something new happens in the MEDIA world, we can teach you about it. Immediately. This makes the course much more contemporary from previous GCSE Media Studies syllabi offered. (The MEDIA concept here is known as IMMEDIACY) Ideally, we want YOU to teach us things too. The media world is huge and ideally with an independent approach to learning you will feel motivated to adopt software, write code and be creative outside of school above and beyond this course.

The links below provide an 'at a glance' guide to the course. It will be used in conjunction with Google Classrooms, the latter offering most of the class resources you will use from one lesson to the next. Your digital portfolio represents a separate entity and will be housed on one of three platforms. (Click on
LEARNING JOURNAL/DIGITAL PORTFOLIO below for a full explanation of the choices available to you)

The course is designed a dual award with the pedagogy (teaching methods) of the Middle Years Programme adopted alongside qualifications offered by real MEDIA orgainisations such as the Agence France-Presse (AFP). Our Facebook platform is linked to our previous extra curricular initiative, Next Generation SIS Digital. This now forms part of YOUR curriculum and is a platform we hope to make frequent use of over the next two years.
