i. Open a new folder on your hard disk to store all the files of your film project. e.g ‘My Film Project’.
ii. Start ‘Final Cut Pro’ and go to ‘System Settings’. On the first tab ‘Scratch Disk’, It shows where the footage and render files are placed.
By Default, the primary disk is set up and all the related files are placed under user\Documents\Final Cut Pro Documents’. Please leave the primary disk setting and set up your external hard disk as the secondary disk.
Step 1 : Click ‘Set’ Button on the SECOND row and choose a folder on your external hard disk where you are created for film project.
Step 2 : remove the ‘tick’ on the first row. DO NOT HIT ‘CLEAR’.
Step 3 : set Waveform Cache, Thumbnail Cache and Autosave Vault to the same folder on your external hard disk.
You will find that 3 new folders (Audio Render Files / Capture Scratch/ Render Files) are created automatically on the ‘Film Project’ Folder of your external hard disk. These are the folders that linked to FCP project.
You can now work on every Mac installed with FCP but every time you’ll need to set the Scratch Disks as above b4 your editing.
