Script Writing
Term 2 begins with a focus upon the skills required for writing a script. We were very lucky to welcome Mr Keon Lee into school last January to run a workshop with students and we hope to do so again this year. This will be necessary in your film-making and in the construction of your
Independent study. Part of our focus will be on Italian Neo-
Realism and will incorporate the work of Cesare Zavatini, the writer of The
Bicycle Thieves. (d. Vittorio de Sica, 1946)
Italian Neorealism forms the basis of a build up towards your Y12 I.B. Film Mock practical assignment and is also an opportunity to be part of an AFL (Assessment for Learning) lesson. Having read an article by Cesare Zavatini, each student must write a single page script outline (known as a synopsis) as a homework task. Students then engage in a knockout style championship in which seeded players (based on GCSE Media Studies results) take on unseeded underdogs. Each round, those players knocked out become judges for those who have progressed further in the competition.
