I would suggest that if you are serious about scriptwriting, or writing more widely (novels, plays etc) then begin by reading the highly insightful, seminal book, Story by Robert MCKee:

Whilst good, keep in mind that the advice of McKee is specific to feature length scripts. For the benefit of this course, an even better recommendation is:
