Our study of The Western & Road Movie is linked not only to film genres (and sub-genres) but also narrative structure. The world is full of ancient stories which make use of 'Quest' based narratives such as The Ramayana in Indian culture or The Odyssey in Greek mythology. It is an integral way in which we tel stories and clearly links to the overall area of narrative and script-writing, which we will look at in more detail later in the school year.

You have already studied 'The Motor Cycle Diaries' as a road movie and subsequently we will now study the 'quest' within The Good the Bad and the Ugly, whilst also considering the Mexican representation of the character Tuco, played by Eli Wallach. This is also our crossover text from considering EDITING before concentrating on SOUND DESIGN in the 2nd half-term.
